Established in 1980, the Oregon Maritime Museum's mission is to:
- Provide, operate, and maintain facilities dedicated to the collection, preservation, and public display of maritime objects.
- Collect and preserve maritime records for scholarly public use.
- Provide public meeting opportunities for maritime interpretation and education.
- Serve as a memorial to merchant mariners and to encourage interest in the past, present and future maritime heritage of Oregon and the Columbia River Basin.
